The Grave of Fireflys
Hi!
We were asked to write a film review in
groups using Google Docs as a collaborative writing tool. My group friends were
Meryem Hilal Yıldırım and Meryem Sena Kolka. We wrote a review on the animated
war drama Grave of the Fireflies (1988), directed by Isao Takahata and animated
by Studio Ghibli. You can also check out my friends’ blog posts here:

Our task was to choose a film, write a
group review, and later comment on our peers’ reviews. We selected Grave of the
Fireflies because of its emotional depth and strong anti-war message. Writing
the review together allowed us to explore different perspectives and analyze
the film more deeply, especially in terms of visual symbolism, music, and
emotional impact.
Working collaboratively on Google Docs made
the whole process easier and more dynamic. We were able to write, edit, and
comment on each other’s parts in real time, which helped improve the quality of
our writing. I’ve used Google Docs for group work before, so I was already
comfortable with the platform, and I think it’s a great tool for students who
want to work efficiently and interactively.
The friends who gave feedback really liked
the review and said it made them interested in watching Grave of the Fireflies.
They especially appreciated the film’s emotional depth, symbolism, and the use
of music. Their positive comments showed me how our collaborative work helped
others connect with the film and its message.
Overall, I really enjoyed both the film and the writing process. This task helped us not only improve our writing skills but also build teamwork and digital collaboration. I’m proud of the final result and glad we had the chance to work on such a meaningful film together.
I definitely recommend you watch it too. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it and learn something meaningful!
See you:)
